Alþingisgarðurinn
Tiny historic garden behind Alþingi dating from the 1890s and recognised as Iceland’s oldest public garden.
About Alþingisgarðurinn
Alþingisgarðurinn sits immediately behind Parliament House and dates from 1893–1895. Much of its creation was led by parliamentarian and bank director Tryggvi Gunnarsson. Despite its central location, the enclosed garden can feel surprisingly peaceful compared with busy Austurvöllur on the opposite side of Alþingi.
