Negative or southward Bz is generally more favourable because it helps solar-wind energy connect with Earth’s magnetic field.
Bt is the total strength of the interplanetary magnetic field. Stronger values can provide more magnetic energy for auroral activity.
Faster solar wind can deliver more energy towards Earth and support stronger auroral activity when the other ingredients line up.
Density tells us how many solar-wind particles are arriving. Sudden increases can accompany changes in space-weather conditions.
Dynamic pressure combines solar-wind speed and density to indicate how strongly the solar wind is pushing against Earth’s magnetosphere.
Kp is useful global context, but don’t treat it as an aurora traffic light. Local conditions and live space weather matter too.
