About Askja
Askja is one of the most extraordinary volcanic landscapes in Iceland. The caldera lies deep in the northern Highlands within Vatnajökull National Park and contains the deep lake Öskjuvatn alongside the much smaller geothermal Víti crater.

Getting there and visiting
Access
Askja is reached by remote mountain roads. The F905/F910 approach includes river crossings, while F88 via Herðubreiðarlindir includes crossings that may be difficult or impassable for smaller 4x4 vehicles. F894 leads from Drekagil towards the Vikraborgir parking area.
