Bárðardalur
Long rural valley following the Skjálfandafljót river south from the Goðafoss area towards Iceland’s interior.
About Bárðardalur
Bárðardalur follows the Skjálfandafljót river through farms, lava landscapes and increasingly remote countryside. Travelling south through the valley leads towards waterfalls including Aldeyjarfoss and Hrafnabjargafoss before the road system transitions towards the Highlands.
Our practical tips
✓Bárðardalur is the route into the Aldeyjarfoss area, but do not assume the road conditions remain the same all the way south.
✓Fill up and use facilities before heading into the more remote southern part of the valley.
