Djúpavík
A tiny remote settlement beneath steep mountains, famous for its enormous abandoned herring factory and extraordinary coastal setting.
About Djúpavík
Djúpavík is one of the most atmospheric places in Strandir. The huge concrete remains of its former herring factory stand beside a waterfall and narrow fjord, creating a striking reminder of Iceland’s twentieth-century herring boom and collapse.
