Grænafell
Popular local hiking area with woodland, mountain scenery, a summit lake and a dramatic gorge beside Grænafell.
About Grænafell
Grænafell has long been one of Reyðarfjörður’s favourite outdoor recreation areas. Marked routes climb from Fagridalur through a sheltered landscape of shrubs, planted trees, streams and huge boulders before reaching higher mountain terrain, a small lake and an impressive gorge.
Our practical tips
✓The sheltered lower slopes are worthwhile even if you do not continue to the top.
✓Higher sections provide broader views across Reyðarfjörður.
✓Look for the enormous boulders scattered through the vegetation.
