Hljóðaklettar
Extraordinary maze of twisted basalt columns exposed by catastrophic flooding within Jökulsárgljúfur.
About Hljóðaklettar
Hljóðaklettar forms part of an ancient crater row whose softer material was stripped away by enormous glacial floods, exposing the solidified interiors of volcanic conduits. The resulting curved and geometric basalt formations are exceptionally unusual.
Our practical tips
✓The formations only really make sense once you walk among them.
✓Allow much more than a quick photo stop.
✓Check trail conditions outside the main summer season.

Access
The National Park currently describes paved road access. Outside summer, road and trail conditions still depend on weather and snow.
