WHY VISIT

About Jökuldalur

Jökuldalur stretches inland from the Hérað region along the Jökulsá á Dal river. Once dominated by the powerful glacial river, the valley contains farms, waterfalls and some of East Iceland’s most interesting landscapes. Stuðlagil has become its best-known attraction, while quieter roads continue towards Jökuldalsheiði and the Highlands.

FIRST-HAND ADVICE

Our practical tips

Allow extra time rather than treating Jökuldalur simply as the road to Stuðlagil.

The open valley can also be excellent for northern lights viewing on clear autumn and winter nights.
