About Rauðasandur
Rauðasandur is one of the most distinctive coastal landscapes in Iceland. Its reddish and golden sands contrast dramatically with the surrounding mountains and blue Atlantic water, while seals and rich birdlife can sometimes be observed around the wider coastal area.
Our practical tips

✓Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.
✓Use binoculars or a zoom lens to observe seals without approaching them.

The approach involves a steep and winding gravel road. Check current road conditions before travelling and drive cautiously.
