L'église de Bakkagerðiskirkja, consacrée en 1901, abrite l'une des œuvres d'art les plus remarquables de la région. Jóhannes S. Kjarval, originaire de Borgarfjörður Eystri, en a peint le retable en 1914. La scène représente le Christ prononçant le Sermon sur la montagne depuis Álfaborg, avec le Dyrfjöll en arrière-plan.
