La troisième éruption dans la région de Fagradalsfjall a commencé près de Litli-Hrútur en juillet 2023. L'éruption a ouvert une autre fissure au nord-est des sites de 2021 et 2022 et a créé un nouveau cône et un vaste champ de lave avant de se terminer plusieurs semaines plus tard.
