Askja er eitt af einstökustu eldfjallasvæðum á Íslandi. Askjan liggur djúpt á norðurhluta hálendisins innan Vatnajökulsþjóðgarðs og inniheldur djúpa stöðuvatnið Öskjuvatn ásamt mun minni jarðhita-gígnum Víti.
