About Barkurinn
Large three-masted sailing ships known as barques once transported goods to and from Iceland. When vessels became too old for service they could be sunk deliberately and reused as foundations for wharves and harbour structures. Barkurinn preserves this unusual element of Reyðarfjörður’s maritime history.
