Dyrfjöll
Jagged 1,136-metre mountain range named for the enormous door-shaped gap cutting through its dramatic skyline.
About Dyrfjöll
Dyrfjöll is the defining mountain range of Borgarfjörður Eystri. The mountains rise to around 1,136 metres and contain an enormous door-shaped gap approximately 856 metres above sea level. They are remnants of an ancient volcanic system formed during or before the last Ice Age. The high ridge can be climbed, but the official regional guidance recommends the summit route only for experienced hikers and with guidance.
Our practical tips
✓Most visitors should enjoy Dyrfjöll from the surrounding trails or Stórurð rather than attempting the high ridge.
