Egilsstaðir is the largest town in East Iceland and the main service centre for travellers exploring the region. It sits close to Lagarfljót and provides straightforward access to Seyðisfjörður, Borgarfjörður Eystri, the Eastfjords and the eastern Highlands. The town has supermarkets, restaurants, accommodation, an airport, swimming facilities and cultural attractions.
