About Einar Jónsson Sculpture Museum
Einar Jónsson was the first Icelandic sculptor to build a professional career from his art. His museum opened in 1923, becoming Iceland’s first purpose-built public art museum. The extraordinary Hnitbjörg building served as gallery, studio and home, while more than 350 works from his six-decade career survive in the collection. A sculpture garden behind the museum contains 26 bronze casts.
