WHY VISIT

About Rainbow Street Reykjavík

Reykjavík’s Rainbow Street forms part of Skólavörðustígur, the attractive street running downhill from Hallgrímskirkja towards the city centre. The rainbow became closely associated with Reykjavík Pride and has developed into one of the capital’s most recognisable photo locations. Independent shops, cafés, galleries and restaurants line the surrounding street.

FIRST-HAND ADVICE

Our practical tips

Walk downhill from Hallgrímskirkja so the church remains behind you for the classic view.

Early morning is considerably quieter for photographs.

Explore the independent shops around Skólavörðustígur rather than seeing only the painted section.
