French Museum
Award-winning museum telling the extraordinary story of the thousands of French fishermen who worked in Icelandic waters.
About French Museum
The French Museum occupies the restored Doctor’s House and French Hospital, both built for French fishermen around 1900. A multimedia exhibition, much of it located in a tunnel joining the buildings, tells the story of French cod fishing around Iceland and the sailors who used Fáskrúðsfjörður as their East Iceland base.
Our practical tips
✓Visit before exploring the other French heritage sites around town.
✓The connecting tunnel forms part of the exhibition rather than simply linking the buildings.
✓The French Hospital itself is part of the historic complex, so it does not need a separate app entry.
