Garður
Small fishing town on the north-west Reykjanes coast, best known as the gateway to Garðskagi and its exceptional birdlife and lighthouses.
About Garður
Garður developed close to rich fishing grounds and was historically one of the peninsula’s major fishing communities. Today its long coastal edge, historic church, fishing heritage and proximity to Garðskagi make it a worthwhile stop on the coastal route north from Keflavík.
Our practical tips
✓Continue all the way to Garðskagi rather than stopping only in the town centre.
✓The coastline is particularly strong for birdwatching.
✓Garður combines easily with Sandgerði and Hvalsnes on a loop from Keflavík.
