Keflavík
Largest urban centre on Reykjanes, with a historic fishing harbour, museums, Icelandic music heritage and a walkable waterfront.
About Keflavík
Keflavík grew from a coastal trading and fishing settlement into one of the main communities of south-west Iceland. Today it forms part of Reykjanesbær together with neighbouring Njarðvík and Hafnir. Although many travellers pass straight through after landing at Keflavík International Airport, the old waterfront contains museums, restaurants, historic buildings and several distinctive attractions worth exploring.
Our practical tips
✓Do not confuse Keflavík town with Keflavík International Airport — the airport is several kilometres away.
✓The Duus waterfront area is the easiest place to start exploring.
✓The town works particularly well for the first or final few hours of an Iceland trip.
✓Combine the old harbour with Giganta and Duus Museum.
