About Illugastaðir
Illugastaðir on western Vatnsnes is an established wildlife-watching site where seals can often be observed resting on rocks or swimming offshore. A path leads towards the viewing area and a shelter provides protection from poor weather.
Our practical tips
✓Binoculars or a zoom lens make the experience much better.
✓Keep noise low and give wildlife plenty of space.
✓Do not plan a visit between 1 May and 20 June because the area closes to protect nesting eider ducks.
