Njarðvíkurskriður & Naddi
Dramatic section of the approach to Borgarfjörður Eystri associated with the legend of the monster Naddi and a mysterious historic roadside cross.
About Njarðvíkurskriður & Naddi
Before a road was completed through Njarðvíkurskriður in 1949, travel between Njarðvík and Borgarfjörður Eystri was extremely difficult. Local folklore tells of the monster Naddi attacking travellers here until a farmer defeated it. A cross at the site bears a Latin inscription and the date 1306, although its precise origins remain uncertain.
Our practical tips
✓Read the Naddi legend before stopping — otherwise the cross is easy to overlook.
