About Skjólfjörur
Skjólfjörur is one of the standout coastal stops around Vopnafjörður. A short walk leads from the road towards the open Atlantic, where colourful stones and driftwood line the shoreline. Ljósastapi rises offshore and whales are occasionally seen from the coast.
Our practical tips
✓Look offshore for Ljósastapi, nicknamed the Elephant.
✓Keep an eye out for whales in the open water.
