About Álftafjörður
Álftafjörður is broad but relatively shallow, with extensive areas exposed at low tide. Islands, tidal channels and mountain valleys create an unusually varied landscape, while Krossanesfjall rises more than 700 metres almost directly from the sea on its southern side.

✓Look inland towards the steep valleys and mountains rather than focusing only on the lagoon.
✓Þvottá and Stapi in Lækjavík are natural stops when continuing south.

Route 1 skirts the fjord on the journey between Djúpivogur and Höfn.
