Hamarsfjörður
Beautiful shallow fjord south of Djúpivogur surrounded by wetlands, mountain valleys and waterfall-filled rivers.
About Hamarsfjörður
Hamarsfjörður lies between Berufjörður and Álftafjörður and forms part of a broad system of shallow lagoons, tidal channels, islands and wetlands. Hamarsdalur extends inland towards Þrándarjökull while Hamarsá tumbles through the valley in numerous waterfalls before reaching the fjord.
Our practical tips
✓Slow down through Hamarsfjörður and Álftafjörður rather than treating them as empty kilometres between Djúpivogur and Höfn.
✓The tidal landscape changes considerably between high and low tide.
