Fossastígur
Easy waterfall trail from Seyðisfjörður following Fjarðará through woodland towards Fjarðarsel and a succession of cascades.
About Fossastígur
Fossastígur begins close to the centre of Seyðisfjörður and follows paths beside Fjarðará through wooded terrain. The river contains around 25 waterfalls, several of which can be seen along the route. An extended option climbs towards Neðri Stafur for broader views over the town and fjord. Fjarðarsel, Iceland’s oldest operating power plant dating from 1913, lies along the route.
Our practical tips
✓You do not need to complete the entire route to see several waterfalls.
✓The longer option towards Neðri Stafur gives excellent views back over the fjord.
✓Late August can also bring berries along parts of the trail.
