Seyðisfjörður sits deep within a narrow East Iceland fjord surrounded by high mountains and numerous waterfalls. The town is known for colourful historic timber buildings, a thriving arts community, excellent food, its photogenic Rainbow Street and Blue Church, and the arrival of the international Norröna ferry. Trails lead directly from town into the surrounding valleys and mountains.

Getting there and visiting
Access
Reached from Egilsstaðir via Road 93 across Fjarðarheiði. The road is paved but winter conditions can be severe.
Visit notes
A half-day covers the main town sights, but an overnight stay allows time for hiking and the more remote parts of the fjord.
