Gerpir
Rugged 661-metre cape forming the easternmost mainland point of Iceland and exposing some of the country’s oldest rock.
About Gerpir
Gerpir is Iceland’s easternmost mainland cape. Its steep sea cliffs rise to around 661 metres and expose rock believed to be roughly 12 million years old, among the oldest found anywhere in Iceland. The isolated peninsula is primarily a hiking destination.
Our practical tips
✓This is a proper wilderness hike rather than an easternmost-point photo stop.
✓Clear weather is particularly important because the coastal views are the main reward.
