WHY VISIT

About Grjótagjá

Grjótagjá was historically used as a geothermal bathing cave. Geological activity between 1975 and 1984 caused the water temperature to rise considerably, and it is no longer considered a bathing location. Visitors come instead to view the clear geothermal water inside the lava fissure.
