WHY VISIT

About Hafnarnesviti

Hafnarnes once supported a community of around 100 people but gradually declined and was completely abandoned by about 1970. The French Hospital was moved here in 1939 and remained for roughly 70 years before being returned to Fáskrúðsfjörður. Today a hike to the small lighthouse passes through this evocative former settlement landscape.
