About Skriðuklaustur
Skriðuklaustur is one of East Iceland’s most important cultural sites. The distinctive mansion was built in 1939 as the home of author Gunnar Gunnarsson and now houses exhibitions connected with his life and work. Beside it are the excavated foundations of a monastery that operated from 1493 until the Reformation in the sixteenth century.
