Wildlife-rich peninsula known for seals, rugged coastal scenery, Hvítserkur and a collection of historic and geological attractions.
About Vatnsnes Peninsula
Vatnsnes projects into Húnaflói and is one of the most rewarding coastal detours in northwest Iceland. Its attractions include Hvítserkur, Borgarvirki and some of Iceland’s best-known seal-watching locations.
Our practical tips
✓Allow considerably more time than the distance suggests because Road 711 and frequent stops make this a slow scenic detour.
✓Hvammstangi is a useful place for supplies and local information before completing the circuit.
