About Vestdalur
Vestdalur preserves one of the historic routes that once connected Seyðisfjörður with the rest of East Iceland. From around 1880 to 1910 it was among the region’s busiest travel routes, and old cairns and stone constructions remain visible. The valley contains a succession of waterfalls before the route reaches Vestdalsvatn and the cave where Viking-age female remains and more than 400 beads were discovered in 2004.
