Víknaslóðir
Extensive network of marked trails linking Borgarfjörður Eystri with colourful mountains, abandoned farms, beaches and remote deserted fjords.
About Víknaslóðir
Víknaslóðir, or the Trails of the Inlets, is one of Iceland’s premier long-distance hiking areas. The network stretches from Borgarfjörður Eystri through deserted coves and fjords towards Loðmundarfjörður. Marked trails cross black beaches, green valleys and colourful pink, orange and rhyolite mountain ridges. Hiking huts operate at Breiðavík, Húsavík and Loðmundarfjörður, allowing multi-day routes through the area.
Our practical tips
✓Buy or obtain the detailed local hiking map before attempting a multi-day route.
✓Do not assume phone signal will be available throughout the network.
✓The area rewards spending several days rather than trying to rush between individual sights.
✓Arrange huts and transport before starting a multi-day itinerary.
Getting there and visiting

Walking
Highly variable; the network contains short day walks and multi-day routes between remote fjords.
Visit notes
Hiking huts are available in Breiðavík, Húsavík and Loðmundarfjörður, but facilities are remote and should be arranged before setting out.
