About Valþjófsstaðarkirkja

Valþjófsstaður has been an important religious and cultural site in Fljótsdalur for centuries. The original medieval church door from the site, carved with elaborate scenes, is one of Iceland’s most celebrated medieval artworks and is preserved at the National Museum of Iceland. A replica can be seen at the modern church.
